Worth also pointing out the date of the meal - Friday 16th October!

As Mr Bill and his mates seem to be almost permanently on strike these days you may wish to email your acceptance and order to me in the first instance at You can tell me that great old line that 'the cheque is in the post' (still preferable to this year's more popular one of 'I know we agreed a cost but now I can't afford to pay you'), but at least I can get the food on order. Let's aim to get it wrapped up by 5th October at the latest.

Here is the invite for the Annual Dinner, received from Mick Cohen:

The age of the paperless society grows nearer and Eltham Cricket Club is at the vanguard of this revolution. How can this be so I hear you ask? Simple. What you are in the process of reading is in fact the Eltham Cricket Club Annual Dinner Invitation and how many dinner invites do you receive by electronic post?

Having opened this e mail and read it you are now subject to and bound by the ancient rules of the club which state quite clearly ?Thou shalt attend the annual club dinner?.

There is no excuse for not attending. You can?t blame the postman for losing the letter, the dog for eating it or the kids for using it as a paper plane. You are reading it and we know you are. So what?s the format? Well this year it has been decided to hold this exciting event at Footscray Rugby Club or ?home? as it has become known. The proceedings will commence at 7.30pm with the meal at 8.00pm. The good news is the bar will be open earlier for those who want a ?swift half? to arouse the appetite!

What you have to do is quite simple. Select your meal from the menu and send your choice and the grand sum of ?20 per person to Pete Swain at 59 Greenwich South Street London SE10 8NT/or by any other means as long as he is in receipt of your choice and money as soon as possible.

Seafood platter
Country pate with herb salad and lemon oil
Chicken Caesar salad

Main courses

Roast leg of lamb with apricot and almond stuffing and lemon jus
Roast breast of duck with onion marmalade and red wine sauce
Roast vegetable tart

Apple pie with crumble topping
Profiteroles and chocolate sauce
Fresh fruit pavlova

Tea and coffee

That?s it. Q.E.D. An evening sorted to enhance your social calendar. What more could you ask for?
