Match Report

Match report Eltham CC Vs Churchleigh CC

Many thanks to David Jones for the following match report, all in rhyme. We hope that Robin Ackerley logs in soon to see that culture still remains at the club despite his relocation to Cheshire...

A Cricketing Tale...

Soon you will all know it
That I am no po-et
But I must now try a rhyme
As my last-year report
Was not really bought
I must try harder this time

Arboreal surrounds
Did enclose the grounds
Of Churchleigh - a beautiful scene
Great weather as well
It is true to tell
And two teams all fired up, keen

Now 40 overs were set
Perhaps 200 to get
A target well within reach
Home side toss did win
And put themselves in
With Eltham ent'ring the breach

Swain and Bulpitt did bowl
And soon made a hole
In home batting - 2 wickets for 10
But Churchleigh fought back
[Putting bowlers on rack]
With Woolgar the pick of their men

At one-twenty for 4
What could Eltham do more?
So, old chap was given a whirl
Wollgar thought, 'My lucks in,
The old sod can't spin'
But was undone by a 'pensioner pearl'.

He played right cross the line
To a full-toss sublime
And going, now set in the rot
To that one-twenty for 4
Came only 45 more
As Colin got wickets - a lot!

5 wickets, 4 runs, just 41 balls
So deadly a bowler proved he
Ending Churchleigh's fine start
He near broke their heart
With hat-trick - bowling all 3

For quite a long time
The target seemed fine
As Eltham kept up the run chase
But a mid-order demise
Churchleigh found, with surprise,
Was enough to put us in our place

Matthew, Peter - and Liam, too
All played their part - sadly, too few
Save for Colin, our hero, with his 41
With both bat and ball
He could really walk tall
His efforts had come second to none

The tea had been great
Did this help seal our fate?
The truth may never be known
But to cogitate further
would serve no great purpose as it's late and I'm off to bed.

[save to ask - which Club member now has a batting average of 'infinity'?]
